From the forest

I really love wood! Dark wood, gnarly wood, light wood, bamboo, rattan, love them all! Today I thought I'd share some of my favourite wooden finds, lovely big polished timber bowls from a single piece of wood, gorgeous baskets woven by hand from bamboo and rattan, I love how these pieces have fit into my home and are used daily...

I love this big woven basket/tray, perfect for fruit, it cost $3 in Vinnie's.

I found these two matching baskets on different occasions, one was $1, the other was $2. They're great for storing random "stuff" in.

A little bread basket, think it cost about 50 cents.

This lovely cane magazine rack rack cost $2 at a Church rummage sale.

I love this elegant lacquered bamboo tray, it looks very pretty on our sideboard and only cost a few dollars.

This long tray is even more gorgeous in real life, really rustic and looks lovely displaying a row of cookbooks. I think I paid about $8 for this.

These wooden bowls are perfect as fruit or salad bowls, the round bowl cost $5 and the oval cost $10, definitely worth it.

It's hard to tell in the photos but this basket is huge, I use it daily to lug my laundry out to the washing line.

I love this wooden cutlery tray, very country kitchen, $3 at a flea market.

I really appreciate the workmanship that went into turning each of these pieces from raw wood into beautiful, useful objects :-)

I too have an addiction to all types of baskets ... my kitchen chairs are a woven rattan and then I got a settee to match, then 2 mirrors to match, then a side lamp to match .... not as lucky as you with your thrifting - mine were all full retail price but I still adore them. TK Maxx here in Ireland is great for ethnic basket type objects as fairly reasonable prices. I use big shopping baskets hung on cup hooks on the back of the playroom floor for all of the girls toys - so much nice than plastic. I also use baskets for cheapy jewellery storage, as a bread bin, as plant holders .... the list goes on. So YES another addiction that we have in common cuz !!!

Your basket, bowl, and tray collection is a beautiful example of craftsmanship and a perfect answer for all of us collectors: placing objects in a basket, bowl or tray instantly gives order and improves the look of things. Your collection is both beautiful and useful. Thanks for sharing!

Tara I was thinking it would be lovely for us to go shopping together but then there might be a cat fight, our tastes are too similar!

Thanks Jenifir, I totally agree, baskets can make such a beautiful storage piece whilst hiding so much clutter :)
